Summary
One in this series of seminars presented by The Museum of Television & Radio. This seminar, held in New York and moderated by television curator Ron Simon, features cast and crew members from the critically acclaimed "Everybody Loves Raymond," the comedy series about a quirky Italian-American family living on Long Island, headed by sarcastic sportswriter Ray and his beleaguered wife Debra.
Museum curator Ron Simon offers opening remarks and welcomes the panelists, creator/executive producer Phil Rosenthal and cast members Peter Boyle (Frank Barone), Brad Garrett (Robert Barone), Patricia Heaton (Debra Barone), Doris Roberts (Marie Barone), and Ray Romano (Ray Barone). The upcoming episode "The Sitter" is then screened in its entirety (for synopsis and credits, see T:54397.)
After the screening, the panelists discuss the following topics, among others: the way in which "Everybody Loves Raymond" developed from Ray Romano's stand-up comedy spot on "The Late Show with David Letterman"; the casting of the show from both Rosenthal's and the actors' perspectives; the emergence of the script from real experiences in Rosenthal and Romano's backgrounds, as well as from the personal lives of other cast and crew members; and the production process from the script writing to the final taping in front of a live audience. In response to questions from the seminar audience, the panelists also discuss the following topics: some of their favorite experiences working on the show; the significance of the show's move from a Friday night to a Monday night time slot; the relation between the actors off-screen and on-screen lives; and Romano's and Garrett's transitions from stand-up comedy to acting.
