ELEANOR AND FRANKLIN {EPISODE 2} (TV)
Summary
Episode two of this historical dramatization based on Joseph P. Lash's Pulitzer Prize-winning book about Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt. In episode two, Eleanor discovers that Franklin has had an affair with her secretary Lucy Mercer. Sara Delano Roosevelt decides that Franklin's political career must be saved and that divorce is to be avoided. Franklin contracts polio -- or "infantile paralysis" as it was known at the time -- and loses the use of his legs. Franklin struggles with his paralysis, as Louis Howe and Eleanor prepare the way for Franklin's re-entry into politics. Franklin's many political victories are covered, and the program concludes with Eleanor taking Franklin's body from Warm Springs, Georgia, to Washington, D.C. for the state funeral. Commercials deleted.
