Summary
Part one of seven in this week-long CBS "Celebration of 50 Years." In part one, Walter Cronkite and Mary Tyler Moore review notable radio programs and personalities, including the following: "Amos 'n' Andy," Kate Smith, Bing Crosby, Morton Downey, Franklin D. Roosevelt, "The Major Bowes Amateur Hour," "Your Hit Parade," "Columbia Workshop" and "Mercury Theatre." Then, they review notable television programs, such as Ed Sullivan's show, "You Are There," "Omnibus," "The Twentieth Century," "Lamp Unto My Feet," and Edward R. Murrow's "Small World" with guests Vivien Leigh and Samuel Goldwyn. Also includes looks at "Lassie," "Mister Ed," "Gentle Ben" with Dennis Weaver, and Barbra Streisand's "Color Me Barbra." Next, Telly Savalas, Jean Stapleton, Moore, and Cronkite review other notable programs, including the following: "Candid Camera" with Allen Funt; "My Favorite Martian" with Bill Bixby and Ray Walston; "The Jack Benny Show"; Murrow's "See It Now"; and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." Bob Keeshan ("Captain Kangaroo") then reviews children's programs. Also covered are "Camera Three," the Smothers Brothers, the 1967 Super Bowl, "Sixty Minutes," "All in the Family," "Kojak," and "Rhoda." Commercials deleted.
