Summary

Part eight of this thirteen-part dramatization of James Fenimore Cooper's classic novel set during the French and Indian wars of 1755-1763. Highlights of this episode include the following: Magua deceives Montcalm by telling him that the Hurons are not preparing to attack the British when the British surrender and depart Fort William Henry; and Magua's Hurons attack the departing British troops and their charges, killing many women and children as Magua captures Cora and Alice Munro. (Presented on BBC in eight episodes from January 17 - March 7, 1971; presented on PBS under the umbrella of "Masterpiece Theatre," March 26 - May 14, 1972. This copy does not include commentary by Alistair Cooke.)
