ABC STAGE 67: EVENING PRIMROSE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of entertainment specials presented under the umbrella of "ABC Stage 67." The first (and to date only) original musical written for television by composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, this program, a musical fantasy filmed on location in New York City, presents the story of Charles, a poet who hides in a department store until after closing time. Here he discovers a world of people who take on the appearance of mannequins during the day and come alive at night. He falls in love with Ella Harkins, a young prisoner who desperately wants to see the outside world, and attempts to help her escape from the repressive control of the dictatorial "store people." Songs include "(If You Can Find Me) I'm Here," "I Remember," "When," "Take Me to the World." Commercials deleted. (This is a black-and-white copy of a color telecast.) Cataloging of this program was made possible by Stephen Sondheim.
