Summary
Part one of this seven-part dramatic series which details the voyage of the H.M.S. "Beagle" and Charles Darwin's discoveries, which led him to the theory of natural selection. In part one, Darwin abandons medicine and comes into conflict with his family over his decision; FitzRoy assumes command of the H.M.S. "Beagle"; Darwin visits his cousins, the Wedgwoods; Darwin attends Cambridge University where he meets the botanist J.S. Henslow who influences him; the "Beagle" returns to England; Darwin joins FitzRoy on the "Beagle," a surveying ship bound for South America and other places; and the H.M.S. "Beagle" sets forth on its five-year voyage. (Copyright 1978.)
