NBC MONDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: GUILTY OR INNOCENT: THE SAM SHEPPARD MURDER CASE (TV)
Summary
This docudrama, presented under the umbrella of "NBC Monday Night at the Movies," is about the murder trials of Sam Sheppard, a doctor accused of slaying his wife. In this portion, Marilyn Sheppard is murdered and, after reporters and police interview those close to the Sheppards, Dr. Sheppard is arrested. The trial begins and Sam hires Philip Madden as his defense attorney. Prosecutor Simmons questions Dr. Sheppard and Madden sums up, and Sheppard is sentenced to life imprisonment and sent to prison. F. Lee Bailey offers to be Sheppard's new lawyer, and Sam meets Ilse Brandt and is released from prison. Sam and Ilse marry, and Sam's case is retried. F. Lee Bailey presents his summation to the jury and the jury renders a verdict of not guilty in Sam's 1966 retrial. Personal problems plague Sam and he dies in 1970. Commercials deleted.
