ALICE IN WONDERLAND; OR, WHAT'S A NICE KID LIKE YOU DOING IN A PLACE LIKE THIS? (TV)

Summary

An animated children's musical adapted loosely from Lewis Carroll's classics "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass." In this modernized re-telling, an American girl named Alice, who is supposed to be working on a book report on "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," falls and is knocked unconscious. When she awakens, she sees her dog Fluff jump into her television set. Concerned about her pet's well-being, Alice follows him and eventually finds herself in a peculiar kingdom much like the one described in Carroll's books. There she meets the following creatures as she attempts to locate Fluff: the White Rabbit, who is only interested in playing games; the Cheshire Cat, who wonders what Alice is doing in Wonderland; the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the Dormouse, and Hedda Hatter, who are having a Tea Party; a singing two-headed caterpillar named Fred and Barney; the unhappy White Knight; and the King and Queen of Hearts. Alice is invited to watch the Queen's croquet game, which she finds extremely confusing to follow. At half-time, the Queen asks Alice to bring tarts to the players. Alice begins to follow the Queen's orders, but the Queen suddenly decides that Alice is a thief and demands that she be decapitated. Alice asks for a trial to prove her innocence, but finds that the courtroom is more confusing than the croquet game. At the end of the trial, Alice is sentenced to serve ninety-nine years in prison. She is placed in a cell, where she is reunited with her dog and the White Rabbit. She also meets a bad egg named Humphrey Dumpty. While in prison, Alice sings about how much she misses her home. Seeing Alice's distress, Humphrey decides that they all must break out of the prison and return Alice from whence she came. During this program, the White Rabbit sings "Life's a Game"; the Cheshire Cat warbles "What's a Nice Kid Like You Doing in a Place Like This?"; Fred and Barney perform "They'll Never Split Us Apart"; and Alice and the White Knight perform "Today Is a Wonderful Day."
