Summary
One in this series of variety programs presided over by Ed Sullivan. In this program Sullivan begins his twentieth anniversary celebration. Highlights of this program include the following segments: a chimpanzee named Mr. Jiggs smokes, rides a motorcycle, and participates in a gun draw; Lana Cantrell sings "How Can I Be Sure" and "Honey"; New York City Ballet stars Edward Villella and Patricia McBride perform a pas de deux ("Diana and Actaeon"); Sue Carson sings about wanting to be a "non-Conformist" and comments on the intelligence of men and the fashions of young women; Jerry Vale sings "My Love, Forgive Me" and "You Don't Have to Say You Love"; in a performance that includes a psychedelic film segment, the Buckinghams perform "Susan" and "What Is Love?"; Ed Sullivan summarizes United States military accomplishments in Vietnam and recognizes a "heroic" commander sitting in the audience; Alan King performs a comic monologue about his morning travel experiences from Los Angeles to New York, his son's Bar Mitzvah, and Ed Sullivan's life; and a film is shown of Ed Sullivan and his wife at Belmont Park.
