JACKIE GLEASON SHOW, THE {THE HONEYMOONERS: HERO} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy/variety series featuring Jackie Gleason. This program begins with a performance by The June Taylor Dancers, followed by Gleason's monologue. In "The Honeymooners" sketch, a fatherless boy in the neighborhood begins idolizing Ralph, who becomes trapped by the lies he tells to impress the boy. At first, Ralph is annoyed by Tommy's attention until the boy tells Ralph how much he admires him. Flattered, Ralph tells Tommy some tall tales about his athletic prowess as a youth; and when he learns that Tommy is in the Boy Scouts, Ralph claims that he was an Eagle Scout. Both Alice and Tommy's teacher insist that Ralph ought to tell the boy the truth. Ralph, however, is willing to do almost anything but admit that he lied; upon discovering that Tommy wants him to join the Boy Scouts' father and son competition, he attempts to learn all of the skills of an Eagle Scout in one evening. Includes commercials.

(Series title varies; "The Jackie Gleason Show" from 1952-1961 and 1966-1970; "Jackie Gleason and His American Scene Magazine" from 1962-1966. "The Honeymooners" spin-off replaced the variety series 1955-1956.)
