HE & SHE: 45 MIDGETS FROM BROADWAY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about cartoonist Dick Hollister and his wife Paula, a social worker.
Jetman is being adapted into a musical, although it will be several months before it opens. Dick discovers that Andrew has invested in the show, and Harry has convinced his fellow firefighters to put money into it as well. The next day Dick finds that a piano has mysteriously appeared in the apartment. He is visited by Jack Moss, the musical's producer, and Arnold Pinner, the writer and composer. It is revealed that Oscar has assembled them all together, as he wants to be selected to portray Jetman in the musical. He gives a performance of the show's opening number and the assembled party is quite impressed. Dick decides to hire him on, although he expresses concern that Oscar might not perform in front of a crowd as well as he does on television.
Two months later, the show opens in New Haven and the Hollisters return home with Arnold, weeping uncontrollably. They reveal to Harry and Andrew that the show was a disaster; Oscar froze on stage and forgot all of his lines and the musical numbers, instead simply doing whatever came to his mind. Arnold is driven to near-insanity by the show's failure, and Dick and Paula make an effort to restrain him and calm him down. Later, Oscar arrives and talks to Dick about the show's failure, although he blames the script rather than his own performance. Accompanied by a pair of chorus girls, Oscar sings a new opening number of his own composition, all while Dick and Paula try to keep Arnold from coming out and strangling Oscar. Arnold emerges but Dick and Paula keep both him and Oscar seated.
Dick tries to convince Oscar that in order to save the show, he must perform it as written. Oscar says he will endeavor to do so but announces that he is leaving on a train for Boston, the wrong location. Arnold and Dick get the idea to cast Oscar's understudy in the lead role, and he gives such a good performance that the show receives glowing reviews. Arnold reveals that Oscar deliberately removed himself from the show in order to save it. However, Harry reveals that Oscar bought out the firefighters' investment in the show. Dick points out that since the show is now a hit, they will see no profit from their investment, angering Harry. Includes commercials.
