MIKE STOKEY'S PANTOMIME QUIZ (TV)
Summary
The first of three programs on this tape. One in this
series of game/quiz programs. This variation on the
popular parlor game charades is played by two teams of
four celebrities (some of whom are program regulars)
each. Host Mike Stokey presides over the stars. One
member of the team acts out the charade (suggested by a
home viewer) while the other three members attempt to
guess the answer within two minutes. The winning team
is the one that solves the puzzle in the least amount of
time. "Pantomime Quiz" was first produced locally for
KTLA in 1947 and earned the first Emmy award for Best
Program. In this installment Rocky Graziano, Sheila
Bond, Dorothy Hart, and Jackie Coogan face off against
Robert Clary, Rudy Vallee, Carol Haney, and Hans
Conried. The teams act out such improbable phrases as
"Nightmare: A Horse on the Late, Late Show" and "The
Case of the Clean Living Indian Who Refused to Bite the
Dust." Includes commercials.
(Network and series run vary. This program aired on all
four networks at different points in the 1950s and later
went into syndication.)
