CBS NEWS SUNDAY MORNING: WITH HOROWITZ IN MOSCOW (TV)
Summary
One in this series of Sunday morning programs mixing news, human interest stories, and the gentle observations of anchor Charles Kuralt. This special edition features a performance by Vladimir Horowitz at the Moscow Conservatory. Kuralt interviews Horowitz in New York, followed by the performance in Moscow. Musical selections include Scarlatti's Sonata in B Minor, L. 33, Sonata in E Major, L. 23, and Sonata in E Major, L. 224; Mozart's Sonata in C Major, K. 330; Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G Major, op. 32, and Prelude in G-sharp Minor, op. 32; and Scriabin's Etude in C-sharp Minor, op. 2, and Etude in D-sharp Minor, op. 8, No. 12. Included are brief appearances by AT&T spokesman John Rubinstein; Horowitz's wife, Wanda Toscanini; and his niece, Yelena Dolberg. In the second hour of this progam, CBS Moscow correspondent Wyatt Andrews examines the Soviet response to Horowitz's return to Moscow after sixty-one years. Musical selections include Schubert's Impromptu in B-flat, "Theme and Variations," op. 142, No. 3 (D. 935), and Schubert-Liszt's No. 6 of "Soirees de Vienne, Valses-Caprices d'apres Franz Schubert"; Liszt's "Sonetto de Petrarcha" in E Major, No. 104; and Chopin's Mazurka in C-sharp Minor, op. 30, No. 4, Mazurka in F Minor, op. 7, No. 3, and Polonaise in A-flat Major, op. 53. Included is an appearance by Van Cliburn in a segment on books about pianists. Includes commercials.
