DISNEY SUNDAY MOVIE, THE: HELP WANTED: KIDS {PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The premiere program in this series of Disney shows for families presented under the umbrella title "The Disney Sunday Movie." Michael D. Eisner, Walt Disney Company chair and CEO, introduces this made-for-television movie and explains the purpose of the series.
In this movie, a husband and wife, Tom and Lisa Burke, living in New York City find themselves facing poverty when they both lose their jobs. Luckily, Tom is offered a job as president of a children's sportswear firm. Unfortunately, the job is in Nirvana, Arizona, which does not make Lisa happy. But they decide to make the best of it and move across country. However, when they arrive in Arizona, Lisa and Tom discover that through a misunderstanding, the owner of the sportswear firm, Cyrus, mistakenly believes that Tom has children. The Burkes quickly learn that all of Cyrus's executives have children. In order to keep Tom in the president's office, the Burkes find it necessary to rent children. Coincidentally, Tom and Lisa meet up with two ragamuffin children, Coop and Mickey, who are eager to accept any financial opportunity presented to them. Originally, the Burkes plan to hire the children for one day to make an appearance at the company picnic. However, things become complicated and the children wind up moving in with the Burkes on a temporary basis. Meanwhile, Cyrus's daughter, Helen, and son-in-law, Lee, who formerly held Tom's position, attempt to dig up some dirt on the Burkes in the hopes of restoring Lee to his former job.
