Summary
Continued from T86:1280. Part four of thirteen. One in this ongoing series of dramas presented under the title of "Masterpiece Theatre," hosted by Alistair Cooke. This television adaptation of R. F. Delderfield's novel portrays life at Bamfylde, an English public boys' school, as seen through the eyes of teacher David Powlett-Jones during the years between the two world wars. In this episode, Julia Darbyshire, a young woman whose husband is permanently hospitalized with war injuries, accepts a teaching post at the school. During this time, David's wife Beth gives birth to twin girls, but their happiness is interrupted when a fire breaks out in one of the dormitories, seriously threatening the safety of the students. David heroically saves the lives of the Kassava brothers, trapped on the roof. Meanwhile, Keith Blades, one of the older students, develops a crush on Julia, and they become romantically involved for a brief time. David faces a tough decision when he accidentally discovers them kissing in private. Continues with T86:1282.
