Summary
One in this series of live interview programs. In this edition, host Edward R. Murrow first visits the Manhattan apartment of comedian Steve Allen and his wife, actress Jayne Meadows. Segment highlights include the following: Allen reads a bedtime story from his book "Bop Fables" to his son David; Meadows discusses her close relationship with her sister, actress Audrey Meadows, with whom she was interviewed on an earlier edition of "Person to Person"; Allen talks about his writing, including a collection of short stories and the book "The Funny Men"; Allen and Meadows lead Murrow on a tour of their apartment; and the couple discuss their married life and Allen's odd schedule as host of the late-night television series "Tonight." In the next segment, Murrow interviews Joseph E. Ragen, warden of the Illinois State Penitentiary at Joliet, and his family. Ragen shows a model of the facility; discusses his emphasis on education, religious instruction, and vocational training for the prisoners; and gives a tour of the apartment he shares with his wife in the prison's administration building. Murrow also talks with Ragen's children about growing up in a prison environment. Includes commercials.
