Summary
This is the first of three parts of a documentary produced by Seattle station KING-TV about the changing economic situation in the northwestern United States, particularly Washington. Host Jean Enerson reports on laid-off union workers forced to find new jobs; cohost Aaron Brown reports on the history of Washington's economy and the birth of Seattle's shipbuilding business. Other topics covered include: the fishing and farming industries; the decline of the timber industry; a comparison of Asian industrial production with Washington State's; the work ethic and salary scales in different countries; and Washington's largest private employer, Boeing Aircraft.
