
PUSS IN BOOTS (TV)
Summary
A ninety-minute musical production by the Seattle Children's Theatre, from KING-TV in Seattle, WA. This stage adaptation of the fairy tale by Charles Perrault is "Presented in the spirit of English holiday pantomime; a centuries-old collection of traditions that includes poetic fairies, men playing women (and vice versa), and talking and singing animals." Introduced by Bruce Maines, president of SAFECO Corp., co-sponsor. As the story unfolds, the Miller's Sons and Puss are introduced, Puss is given the power of speech by the Talking Animal Fairy, and Puss buys a cape, hat, and boots from a pushcart salesman. Includes audience reactions. Puss in Boots catches a rabbit and brings it to the Queen's palace. The Queen makes her entrance. Puss tells the Queen that the Miller's Son is a wealthy marquis. Song: "Hail to Our Queen." The Narrator explains that Puss becomes the Queen's hunter. Puss and the Miller's Son sing about friendship. The Narrator introduces Act II, in which the Miller's Son and Princess Desiree fall in love and sing a love song, and Puss talks with five peasants, four of whom are puppets. Puss has a battle with Iggy the Ogre and wins the Ogre's palatial mansion for the Miller's Son. All turns out well; song: "Hail to Puss in Boots."
