VD BLUES (TV)
Summary
This special program addresses the serious problems of venereal disease in a whimsically informative fashion. Dick Cavett provides the upbeat patter between the various sketches and songs that make up this special. Highlights include: Doctor Hook singing Shel Silverstein's "Don't Give a Dose to the One You Love Most"; "Silverlips," Jules Feiffer's comic encounter between doctor and patient; Novella Nelson singing "Carrier," by Phil Moore; Israel Horovitz's "Play for Germs," in which James Coco and Robert Drivas play Gonorrhea and Syphilis, battling to occupy the same uterus; a World War I training film; and Arlo Guthrie singing "A Child of VD," a 1949 song by his father, Woody Guthrie.
(This program won the 1972-73 Emmy Award for Special Classification of Outstanding Program and Individual Achievement.)
