AN AMERICAN FAMILY {PART 3 OF 12} (TV)
Summary
Part three of this twelve-part documentary in which the events in the everyday lives of Bill and Pat Loud and their five children, an actual family from Santa Barbara, California, are captured on film over a seven-month period, from May 30, 1971 to January 1, 1972. In this installment, Delilah and Michele Loud perform in a dance recital given by the Rodenco School of Dance at the Lobero Theater. Throughout, Delilah and Michele attend rehearsals and make backstage preparations; prior to the recital, Pat helps Delilah prepare her costume. At the recital, which Bill and Pat attend, Delilah dances in a ballet sequence and performs a dance solo entitled "Drums," and Michele performs in a modern dance number. Also in this installment, Pat stops off in Baltimore, Maryland, on her way home from her visit with her son, Lance, in New York City, to check on a shipment for her husband's company, which specializes in replacement parts for equipment used in strip mining. At the Loud home, Grant, Michele and Delilah discuss Grant's rock 'n' roll band and engage in horseplay with friends in their backyard. Bill attempts to cope with late shipments and the strikes that are affecting his business. When Pat arrives in Santa Barbara, Bill meets her at the airport and they have lunch at a restaurant, where they discuss her trip to New York and their children. And when Pat arrives home, the Loud children greet their mother.
