MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., THE {THE MAN FROM UNCLE}: THE FIVE DAUGHTERS AFFAIR (TV)

Summary

One in this series of tongue-in-cheek spy dramas about superagents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin of the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. In this two-part episode, Napoleon and Illya pay a visit to Dr. Simon True, who is working on a scientific procedure that will enable people to extract gold from common sea water. THRUSH is trying to get a hold of Dr. True's secret formula, but he has hidden it from everyone. Before Dr. True can reveal the formula to Solo and Illya, he dies from an apparent heart attack. Solo and Illya must now talk to Dr. True's five daughters to find out what they may know. Randolph, a THRUSH agent, searches Dr. True's home while the recent widow, Amanda, is there. She won't cooperate with Randolph and he kills her. When Solo and Illya arrive, they find Amanda dead; they also find Sandy, who is Dr. True's only daughter related by blood. They take Sandy to Rome to search for the second daughter, Margo, and find her married to the Count De Fanzini. THRUSH is also after Margo, but Solo and Illya won't give her up without a fight. The next destination is London where Imogen is arrested for indecent exposure. Solo bails her out because she most likely has part of the formula. Once again THRUSH is there and ready to fight for the information Imogen may have. The next stop is the Swiss Alps where daughter number three, Yvonne, is staying. This time Randolph gets to Yvonne before Solo and Illya can, but Sandy somehow obtains what the agents are looking for. On route to their next stop, Solo, Illya, and Sandy board their private jet, only to find that THRUSH is already on board waiting for them.

Randolph threatens to throw Sandy out of the plane if Solo doesn't hand over what he wants. Upon receiving the information, Randolph and the THRUSH agents parachute from the plane leaving Solo, Illya, and Sandy tied up as the plane runs out of fuel. Solo and Illya, however, break free from their restraints and successfully land the plane. Back at headquarters, Waverly informs them that THRUSH now has all four pieces of the formula because of an article printed in a magazine with Dr. True's picture. The pictures that U.N.C.L.E. has been trying to obtain contain the pieces to the formula. Waverly had people find out what the symbols stand for and the end result is the phrase "Japanese Lullaby," which means nothing to anyone except Sandy. Meanwhile, Solo, Illya, and Sandy are on their way to Dr. True's home when THRUSH intercepts them and takes Illya and Sandy hostage. Sandy is then taken to Japan to find out the meaning of "Japanese Lullaby." Illya escapes and he and Solo go to Japan to find Sandy. U.N.C.L.E. has found out just what the phrase means and have located the man whom it is named after. However, THRUSH spoils their plan by killing the man and once again taking the three hostage. Illya and Solo figure out a way to break out of the holding cell and get to the heart of the gold extracting plant in order to stop the operation. Commercials deleted.
