STATELINE: CALL GOVERNOR CUOMO (TV)

Summary

One in this occasional series of call-in programs in which Gov. Mario M. Cuomo (D-NY) responds to questions from New York State residents. Topics discussed include taxes, seat belt laws, the legal drinking age, medical malpractice concerns, tavern licensing laws, abortion, and Pres. Ronald Reagan's State of the Union address, which aired just prior to the program. Cuomo also discusses his position on salary increases for the state legislature; equal pay for his staff members regardless of gender; comments that he made about Reagan and Mayor Ed Koch of New York City; and the $22.5 million spent to build a stadium in Buffalo. Callers also ask Cuomo for his opinions about legislation for student loans, teachers' salaries, advance notice to workers about layoffs, and a prescription drug program for senior citizens similar to the one offered to state employees. No commercials. (This program aired on PBS stations throughout New York State. Sign language interpretation is provided throughout the program.)
