Summary
This segment focuses on how the AIDS epidemic has affected the arts community. Featured are interviews with Arnie Zane, a dancer who had been diagnosed as having AIDS, the cause of his death in 1988; Bill T. Jones, who with Zane co-founded a modern dance company; editors Frank Meyer of Variety magazine and Richard Goldstein of the Village Voice Weekly; actor/playwright Harvey Fierstein; producer Joseph Papp; artist directors Mikhail Baryshnikov and Peter Martins; actors Richard Gere, Elizabeth Taylor, Susan Sarandon, and Colleen Dewhurst, president of Actors' Equity. Also included are clips from Fierstein's Broadway production of "Safe Sex"; Showtime's production of "As Is "; and the off-Broadway production of "Beirut," with Laura San Giacomo. No commercials.
