SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE {RICK NELSON, JUDY COLLINS} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of live, late-night comedy/variety programs featuring topical satire. Hosted by pop singer Rick Nelson, this program begins with a comedy sketch in which Bill Murray portrays a disc jockey taking phone calls from his radio listeners. Comedy highlights include a spoof of the television series "The Twilight Zone," in which Rod Serling (Dan Aykroyd) narrates while Nelson wanders through several 1950s family sitcoms in search of his own, "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet"; a "Yeast Infection Rock-a-thon" with Gilda Radner as a burned-out rock star, Candy Slice, and a brief appearance by Paul Shaffer as music industry mogul Don Kirshner; and a talk show parody, "ÀQuien es Mas Macho?" featuring Murray as the Hispanic host. Also included are performances by musical guest Judy Collins, who sings "Hard Times for Lovers," and Nelson, who performs "Hello Mary Lou" and "Travelin' Man"; a commercial parody with Nelson as the spokesperson for the Helium Manufacturers of America; a sketch with men's hairstylists working in a barbershop in a mall where business is dwindling; a short "Schiller's Reel" film entitled "Picasso: The New York Years: 1933-1942"; and the weekly news satire "Weekend Update," which includes a "Point-Counterpoint" segment in which Jane Curtin and Aykroyd debate each other about cocaine use. Includes commercials and promos.
