Madame Butterfly: Screening and Conversation

Join us for a screening of NBC Opera Theatre: Madame Butterfly—not seen since its original telecast more than half a century ago—followed by a conversation with soprano Elaine Malbin, who played the title role, and opera critic Eric Myers. The superb cast also includes Davis Cunningham as Pinkerton, Warren Galjour as Sharpless, and Conchita Gaston as Suzuki. This live telecast (performed in an English translation by Ruth and Thomas Martin) aired on December 4, 1955, and was directed by Kirk Browning and conducted by Herbert Grossman. (130 minutes)
