ESPN's 30 for 30: Kings Ransom

Wayne Gretzky is one of the luminescent icons in all of sports; his inimitable hockey skills are the stuff of record-breaking legend. When “The Great One” was traded from the Edmonton Oilers, a team he led to four Stanley Cups, to the Los Angeles Kings in 1988, the whole hockey world was turned upside down. In this documentary for ESPN’s 30 for 30 series, acclaimed filmmaker Peter Berg of Friday Night Lights fame explores the manifold ramifications of the deal that brought Canada’s national treasure to sunny California. After the screening, the principals of the historic trade will answer questions about the transaction that people are still talking about more than twenty years later. (52 minutes)
