Come see outstanding documentaries produced by young people across the country.

The eleventh Annual Docu-Jam is a unique youth documentary showcase presented by The Paley Center for Media, in association with Downtown Community Television Center in New York, as part of its PALEYDOCFEST2011. Selected documentaries are screened at PALEYDOCFEST2011, and will become part of the Center’s permanent collection. The screenings will be followed by an informal Q&A.

These screenings are FREE, but reservations are recommended.

The Door (DCTV)
All doors lead to something.

History in these Streets (Bay Area Video Coalition)
A piece of the Black Panther Party’s history is conveyed through beautiful images and storytelling.

Crossing Waters: The Story of Liberian Youth in Staten Island (Educational Video Center)
Relocated to Staten Island after a brutal civil war, Liberian youth and their families find a new set of challenges. 

Generation Bengali (Reel Works Teen Filmmaking)
A young Bengali American, Saqif Bhuiyan, discusses his identity in this humorous short film.

Hatred to your Home (DCTV)
A portrait of Derek Horton’s life in East New York.

Type Cast (Urban Arts Partnership)
This film shares the stories of two young artists living with diabetes and the relationship between identity, class, and access to healthcare.

30 Feet Apart (TORCH)
This film illuminates the disparities between two high schools, Lab and Humanities (currently known as B.R.E.C.), that are merely thirty feet part.

Box Lunch (DCTV)
An investigation into cafeteria lunches at a New York City school leads to an amazing rooftop garden in Brooklyn.

Creative Growth (BAVC)
This documentary is about the Creative Growth artist’s studio for the disabled.
