This installment of NBC’s Police Story, an anthology series regarded as one of television’s most realistic police dramas, thanks to creator Joseph Wambaugh’s background as an LAPD officer, stars none other than The Partridge Family’s David Cassidy. From the mundane to the heart-stopping, Police Story typically explored the personal lives of the officers and their families, which had rarely been seen in police dramas of the past. This installment, a two-hour movie titled “A Chance to Live,” follows Officer Dan Shay (Cassidy), an undercover cop who infiltrates a high school drug ring. Shay quickly befriends the school’s suppliers but finds that separating his life as a narcotics officer from his undercover façade is harder than anticipated. Originally airing in May 1978, this was Cassidy’s first post-Partridge performance and earned the actor an Emmy nomination for best dramatic actor. Cassidy is joined by Vince Edwards, Gloria DeHaven, Anne Lockhart, Dane Clark, and Dee Wallace. The show was so successful that Cassidy wound up reprising the role in the short-lived series David Cassidy – Undercover Man
