The Paley Center for Media Announces Fifty New Honorees for She Made It: Women Creating Television & Radio

Monday, November 12, 2007

New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA—The Paley Center for Media (formerly The Museum of Television & Radio) today announced the names of fifty new honorees for She Made It: Women Creating Television and Radio—the major initiative launched in 2005 to celebrate the achievements of creative and business women in the industries of television, radio, and new media. Spanning the generations from early trailblazers to current innovators, She Made It honors writers, directors, producers, journalists, sportscasters, and executives by preserving the legacy of these women who have had an enormous impact on the media. A complete list of the 2007 She Made It honorees is attached.

At the center of She Made It is a unique collection of radio, television, and new media programming created by women. Over 1,000 hours of programming have been collected to date, compiled both from the Paley Center's existing collection of more than 140,000 programs and from new acquisitions. The She Made It archives are available for viewing and listening at both Paley Center locations in New York and Los Angeles. Public events and an interactive website (www.shemadeit.org) support this landmark collection.

"Powerful, talented women are not as uncommon in today's media industry as was once the case," said Pat Mitchell, President and CEO of The Paley Center for Media. "And today's women media leaders owe a great deal to their predecessors who broke new ground in every sector of the media business: women who dared to do what many believed women couldn't and even shouldn't do; women who inspire other women with their achievements as writers, directors, producers, journalists, sportscasters, and executives. She Made It honors both the trailblazers and today's outstanding women in radio and television."

Leading up to the third annual She Made It celebration event on December 6 in New York City, the Paley Center has presented three public events featuring honorees. In New York, the Paley Center welcomed honorees Andrea Mitchell and Mary Tyler Moore:

The women selected to be honored were chosen by the Paley Center in consultation with a steering committee comprised of some of the most prominent women working in television and radio today and respected scholars in the academic study of women in media. The steering committee is led by Loreen Arbus and Kay Koplovitz, cochairs of the committee and Paley Center trustees, as well as Geraldine Laybourne, Dawn Ostroff, Nancy Tellem, and Marlo Thomas.

The general public can access the collection and participate in programs that explore and celebrate the creativity, the innovations, the personalities, and the leaders who are shaping media.
