The Paley Center for Media Announces Fall 2008 Season

New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA—The Paley Center for Media (formerly The Museum of Television & Radio) today announced details of its fall 2008 season, a rich event series that explores the impact of media from politics to pop culture.
This fall season, the Paley Center also examines the creative process behind great entertainment, offering a range of events that give fans and media enthusiasts unprecedented access to the cast, creators, and executives behind great dramas and comedies."If there has ever been a time when the power of media to inform, to influence, and to be a powerful force for shaping public opinion was evident, it has been this year during a history-making presidential election process. We are convening the conversations, forums, and programs to explore how an ever evolving and ever more important power of media impacts us as individual media consumers and as citizens," said Pat Mitchell, president and chief executive officer of The Paley Center for Media. "At the Paley Center, we also celebrate media as entertainment and by bringing together the best of television and radio's actors, directors, producers, executives, and the most innovative talents from the new media space. We offer media enthusiasts and fans rare and compelling insights to the creative process...as well as the opportunity to meet and interact with the talent defining popular culture today...not just here in the U.S. but from around the world."
The Paley Center for Media: New York Events
This season, the Paley Center explores the increasing role of the media in this year's upcoming presidential election as well as the events that led to this historic election. From revisiting the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the groundbreaking The War Room documentary, to examining the impact of the vote of Millennials, the Paley Center brings together journalists, politicians, ireporters, pollsters, and political strategists to discuss the part that media has played in elections.
On the entertainment side, events include celebrations of the work of such iconic figures as Lucie Arnaz, Leonard Bernstein, Ted Turner, Liv Ullmann as captured on radio and television and in print. Comedy highlights include New York Comedy Festival evenings with the writers of The Daily Show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. In its "New Perspectives on The Classics" series, the Paley Center will look back at a classic program when Petula Clark and Harry Belafonte reunite for the fortieth anniversary of the 1968 variety show that sparked a racial controversy. Other events this season include the world premiere of HBO's Ricky Gervais: Out of England-The Stand Up Special, as well as previews of Ron Howard's adaptation of Peter Morgan's award-winning play Frost/Nixon; the P.O.V.'s documentary In the Family with Joanna Rudnick. The popular New Media series continues to explore the criss-crossing between TV and the Web with the new sitcoms of The Burg and The- All-For-Nots and the preview of SciFi Channel's Sanctuary, adapted from the Internet.
Also in the fall, PaleyDocFest08 returns with a slate of documentary premieres including Johnny Cash's America by acclaimed filmmaker Morgan Neville, American Masters: Jerome Robbins featuring the legendary choreographer, and Running the Sahara produced by Matt Damon. The Paley Center will also reunite filmmaker Richard Kaplan and subject Liv Ullmann to discuss 1979's A Look at Liv: Norway's Liv Ullmann; Liv Ullmann's Norway. The festival will also feature two documentaries, Toots and Whatever It Takes, about two different extraordinary New Yorkers and how they impacted others.
The Paley Center for Media: Los Angeles Events
In Los Angeles, the Paley Center will present several dynamic entertainment events including in person appearances by filmmakers Ron Howard & Brian Grazer, Jonny Lee Miller, Joe Mantegna, Bryan Fuller, and celebrated chefs Giada De Laurentiis and Cat Cora among others. Also on the roster are evenings with the casts and creators of Eli Stone, Criminal Minds, and Prison Break. The Paley Center will also present a three evening series celebrating the writing process behind TV hits The Office, Family Guy, and Pushing Daisies, a special advance screening of the highly anticipated feature release Frost/Nixon in addition to a four-event series honoring groundbreaking individuals from the music world including Dave Brubeck and lyricists Marilyn and Alan Bergman. The season will also celebrate Alan Ball's new drama True Blood and the long-running series Monk which will reach its 100th episode milestone this year.
The L.A. season kicks off with the Paley Center/TV Guide Fall Preview Parties presenting a week-long series of free public screening events that offer a sneak peek at the hottest new and returning shows of the fall season prior to their broadcast premieres starting September 5. This year's roster includes: Life on Mars (ABC), The Mentalist (CBS), 90210 (The CW), Fringe (Fox), and Kings (NBC). For the first time, members of the casts and creative teams from several featured shows will participate in Q&A's moderated by TV Guide talent prior to the screenings each evening.
