The Paley Center for Media Announces Fall 2009 Season

New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA—The Paley Center for Media today announced details of its fall 2009 season, a rich event series that continues to explore the definition of media and its impact on today’s society from politics to social issues to sports. This fall season, the Paley Center also examines the creative process behind great entertainment, offering a range of events that give fans and media enthusiasts unprecedented access to the cast, creators, and executives behind great dramas and comedies.
The Paley Center for Media: New York Events
This season, the Paley Center explores the intersection of politics and culture at its tenth annual television documentary festival in October. PaleyDocFest09 starts on October 8 with The Way We Get By; American Masters: Joan Baez: How Sweet the Sound on October 9; Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall on October 20; The Glass House on October 21; ESPN’s 30 for 30: The Rise and Fall of Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder on October 22; Reporter on October 23; RiP: A Remix Manifesto on October 26; and on October 29 the Festival will close with Poliwood by award-winning director Barry Levinson. Two special PaleyDocFest events which have become mainstays of the Festival are also included this year – The Art of the Documentary Pitch workshop and DOCU-JAM on Saturday, October 17.
On the entertainment side, events include celebrations of the work of icons Julie Andrews, Johnny Mercer, Frank Sinatra, and Liv Ullmann as captured on radio and television. Comedy highlights include New York Comedy Festival panels with the writers of The Colbert Report and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Other events this season include a two-day event celebrating the vampire legacy on television and in pop culture; and a very special evening with Dick Wolf and the stars of the Law & Order franchise.
The Paley Center for Media: Los Angeles Events
In Los Angeles, the Paley Center will present several dynamic entertainment events including in-person appearances by Peter Berg, Carol Burnett, Wayne Gretzky, Quincy Jones, and Max Lugavere and Jason Silva of Current TV, among others. Also on the roster are evenings with the casts and creators of Drop Dead Diva, and a celebration of the writing process behind HBO’s hit True Blood with Alan Ball and the writing team. Exploring the intersection of new media and culture, the popular Current TV personalities discuss how young filmmakers and activists are harnessing the power of new media to transform society.
