NYC PREP: TOP HALF OF ONE PERCENT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

One in this Bravo Channel reality program about the lives of six Manhattan prep school teenagers. The show follows the lives of Peter Cary “PC” Peterson, aged 18, Jessica “Jessie” Leavitt, aged 17, Kelli Brooke Tomashoff, aged 16, Sebastian Oppenheim, aged 16, Camille Isabel Hughes, aged 17, and Taylor DeGiovanni, aged 15, all students of prestigious schools in New York City, as they interact. PC and Jessie have been best friends practically their whole lives. They dated some time ago, but decided to simply remain close friends. Jessie is interested in the fashion industry and runs a charity organization known as “Operation: Smile” for the benefit of cleft-lipped children in third-world countries. She attempts to get PC in on it, but he will not, much to her frustration. Camille has hopes of running a genetics firm and worries incessantly about her performance in school. At a nerve-wracking meeting with her mother, she discovers her SAT scores, which turn out to be quite high, but she believes she can do better. Despite this, she feels burned out from all her studying and laments her lack of community service hours necessary to get into Harvard, her school of choice. Taylor’s family does not enjoy the extreme wealth of the others, but has made friends with many of them. She decides to throw a party against the wishes of her single, divorced mother. Later, when she and her mother are out shopping, she becomes very inquisitive about Sebastian, and Taylor notes her mothers’ overbearing nature. Meanwhile, Sebastian goes on a double date with his friend Gabe, demonstrating his knowledge of the French language. Kelli lives in the city with her older brother; their parents visit from the Hamptons infrequently. She enjoys the independence she feels. She aspires to become a singer. While out to dinner, Kelli meets Sebastian, and the two hit it off. Sebastian remarks on his proclivity for “hooking up” with a large number of girls, and expresses a liking for Kelli. They meet up again and go out shopping, and Kelli gets a call from Taylor inviting her to her party. She decides to invite Sebastian as well. At the party, Sebastian and Taylor become “smitten” with each other, prompting Kelli to leave. Jessie takes PC to an art and fashion show, where she hopes to network with members of the fashion industry. Kelli and Camille arrive, and when PC becomes too engrossed in them, Jessie coldly announces she is leaving. Later, PC invites Kelli to dinner, but she unexpectedly brings Camille along. Camille hopes to use PC’s connection to “Operation: Smile” to score community service credit. However, their dinner goes poorly and PC regrets it. The next day he sits down with Jessie to try and let off some steam, noting that he is uncertain about his dating prospects. When he playfully tosses a water bottle at Jessie, she storms out. The next day, PC calls her and apologizes, and they part on better terms.
