SOUL TRAIN {MICHAEL JACKSON, MDLT} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of music variety programs showcasing African-American musicians and talent. This installment, hosted by Don Cornelius, features special guests Michael Jackson and female singing group MDLT.
The program opens as the Soul Train Dancers perform to Barry White's "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe," after which MDLT takes the stage and performs "Runnin' and Pushin'." Two dancers attempt to solve the Soul Train Scramble – which spells out "Michael Jackson" – as the others dance to Stevie Wonder's "You Haven't Done Nothin' "; and Cornelius interviews Angie Chester, the 1974 Playboy Bunny of the Year, about the exciting perks of her new title.
The dancers perform to "Skin Tight" by Ohio Players and "Party Down" by Little Beaver, after which Michael Jackson performs "Whatever You Got, I Want" from the new Jackson 5 album "Dancing Machine." He briefly chats with Cornelius about the album and the group's recent success at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. After "You and I" by Johnny Bristol, Jackson takes a few questions from the guests, including the experience of traveling with his siblings, his solo career, the experience of fame, and plans for a movie starring the famous Jacksons. He then performs "If I Don't Love You This Way" from the album.
Next, MDLT – so named for the initials of the four Willis sisters in the group, Maxine, Diana, Laverne and Tina – performs "What's Your Game." They then chat with Cornelius about the experience of touring with the Jackson 5. The Soul Train Line is set to the Isley Brothers' "Live It Up," and Jackson closes the program with "What You Don't Know." Includes commercials.
