VIEW, THE {SELENA GOMEZ; CAROL CHANNING} (TV)
Summary
One in this series of daytime talk shows hosted by a multi-generational group of women, including actress Whoopi Goldberg, television personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck and comedian Joy Behar. In this edition, TV and radio host Jacque Reid joins the panel as a guest host. The hosts open the program by discussing the controversial topic of "financial abortions," in which men are legally permitted to avoid financial and personal responsibility for their biological children prior to conception or birth; the difficult of enforcing such a policy; actress Lindsay Lohan's jail sentence for misdemeanor theft and probation violation, her drug issues and two infamous mugshots; media mogul Sumner Redstone's surprising phone call to a journalist in which he demanded the name of a source and promised "not to kill" the individual; salary disagreements within the cast of the reality show "Jersey Shore"; plans for a Korean-American version of the salacious program; debate about Forever 21's maternity clothing line, accused by some of promoting teen pregnancy with its apparel; and an update on Mississippi teen Constance McMillen, who brought a successful lawsuit against her high school after being forbidden to attend her prom with a female date.
The first guess, actress/singer Selena Gomez, then joins the hosts and discusses the future of her teen sitcom "Wizards of Waverly Place"; her role as the older sister in "Ramona and Beezus" (2010), adapted from the long-running book series by Beverly Cleary; comparisons to fellow Disney Channel alumna-turned-pop star Miley Cyrus; shooting her new film "Monte Carlo" (2011) in a variety of glamorous European cities; rumors about her love life alongside assorted "Hollywood hunks"; and her "Dream Out Loud" fashion line, sold at K-Mart, from which several items are modeled. Clips are also shown from "Wizards" and "Ramona."
Next, Broadway legend Carol Channing takes the stage to chat about actress Lily Tomlin's "campaign" for Channing to receive the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors award; actor Johnny Depp's amusing comment about his desire to portray Channing in a film; her work alongside former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson and Goldberg's mother Emma Johnson to keep arts programs in American public schools, as demonstrated in song; her new music album "For Heaven's Sake"; her many thousands of performances as the iconic Dolly Levi in "Hello, Dolly!", including a tale about fellow Broadway star Yul Brynner; and the story of her first meeting with fourth husband Harry Kullijian. A clip is also shown from the 1994 recording of "Dolly!". Includes commercials and promos.
