CHARLIE BROWN AND SNOOPY SHOW, THE {STRAWS; LUCY BASEBALL; PEPPERMINT PATTY; DAISY HILL PUPPY CUP; LINUS AND LUCY} (TV)
Summary
The second of two programs on B:04189. One in this animated series based on the popular "Peanuts" newspaper comic strip, featuring the perpetually unlucky Charlie Brown and his pet beagle Snoopy. In "Straws," Lucy and Charlie Brown are sitting around, talking and drinking lemonade. She sets down her glass for a moment and doesn't notice Snoopy taking a sip, although Charlie Brown does. He is disgusted when she continues to sip from her glass, oblivious to what has transpired. In "Lucy Baseball," Charlie Brown and his team are playing baseball and he reluctantly assigns Lucy to right field. She causes no end of trouble for the team, repeatedly missing balls hit her way. Charlie Brown contemplates talking to her about it, but is afraid she'll yell at him. His fear is realized when he has to clear his throat in her vicinity. Eventually Charlie Brown kicks her off the team and she is highly upset. In retaliation, she writes an article for the school newspaper laced with scathing remarks about the team. She then resorts to heckling Charlie Brown while he tries to pitch. Finally, she distracts Snoopy during an important play, thus causing the team to lose the game. In "Peppermint Patty," Patty asks Charlie Brown if she can stay at his house while her father is away. She is excited about staying there, believing she'll be staying in a fancy guest room. However, the Brown residence has no such guest room and so she decides to stay in the "guest cottage," which is actually Snoopy's doghouse. She seems content to stay there, despite the fact that she has to sleep out in the rain. She soon finds that the house isn't exactly what she expected it to be, and Marcie points out that she was only disappointed because her expectations were so high. In "Daisy Hill Puppy Cup," Snoopy is nominated for an award given to the best dog in the neighborhood. In order to qualify, Snoopy must collect letters of recommendation from the neighborhood kids. Some offer letters willingly, but Snoopy must try to coerce others, such as ransoming Linus's blanket in exchange for a letter. Snoopy ends up not receiving the award and he is angry about it. Charlie Brown decides to make Snoopy feel better by having his dinner served by a "beautiful waitress" who turns out to simply be Lucy. In "Linus and Lucy," Linus and Lucy start getting on each other's nerves; Linus presents her with an "award" for being crabby for 1,000 days in a row, while Lucy tries to prevent Linus from petting birds. Lucy torments Linus further by making him believe a spider is near him. When Linus breaks one of Lucy's crayons by accident, she literally throws him out of the house. Linus decides to stay with Snoopy (in his "Joe Cool" persona). Lucy refuses to let Linus back in, and he mentions to Charlie Brown that their mother is in the hospital. Lucy discovers that her mother has given birth to a new baby brother. Feeling defeated, she lets Linus back into the house, now feeling "outnumbered." Tape ends abruptly. Commercials deleted.
