Summary
The second in this series of four musical variety specials hosted by Frank Sinatra and sponsored by Timex.
A rain-soaked Peter Lawford opens this program and banters with Sinatra, who then sings "I've Got the World on a String." The Hi-Los sing "The Desert Song," and Hermione Gingold joins Sinatra and Lawford to discuss her "ghastly" trip to California. Gingold and Lawford sing "Comes to Love (Nothing Can Be Done)", and Ella Fitzgerald takes the stage and sings "There's a Lull in My Life." Sinatra and Juliet Prowse, stars of the upcoming "Can-Can" (1960), perform "It's Alright With Me" as a "get-well card" for ailing maestro Cole Porter, and Prowse performs an elaborate dance number.
Next, Sinatra sings "Too Marvelous for Words" and "Here's That Rainy Day"; Fitzgerald sings "Just You, Just Me." Sinatra elbows his way in with the Hi-Los and sings "I'll Never Smile Again" along with the "whippersnappers," and then joins Fitzgerald for "Can't We Be Friends." Lawford, Gingold, and Prowse sing "Puttin' on the Ritz," and Sinatra previews Fitzgerald's upcoming four-disc album, "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book," featuring arrangements by Nelson Riddle. She performs "He Loves and She Loves," followed by the Hi-Los on "Love Walked In," Sinatra on "Our Love is Here to Stay," and "Love is Sweeping the Country," featuring Fitzgerald, Lawford, Gingold, and Prowse. Includes commercials for Timex.
