GAYLE KING SHOW, THE {MIKA BRZEZINSKI, RACHEL GRIFFITHS} {SERIES FINALE} (TV)
Summary
The final episode in this talk show series hosted by Gayle King. Her guests are Mika Brzezinski, Rachel Griffiths, Julia Baker, and Neil Pasricha.
In this episode, King chats with her friend and former co-worker, "Morning Joe" host Brzezinski, who was also her first guest on the show. Brzezinski presents King with a number of gifts as well as advice for surviving the early-morning demands of her new position, starting in January, as anchor on "CBS This Morning." Brzezinski's "Morning Joe" co-host Joe Scarborough, currently on the mend after nasal surgery, calls into the program to wish King luck in her new job. Brzezinski and King discuss various current events, including Republican Presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and John Huntsman; actor Bradley Cooper's crowning as People magazine's annual "Sexiest Man Alive" and many fans' opinion that Ryan Gosling was "robbed"; the announcement that acerbic comedian Ricky Gervais' is to host the Golden Globe Awards for the second year in a row; a disastrous recent interview with Penn State football coach and accused child molester Jerry Sandusky and comments from his lawyer; whether the Penn State sports program should be cancelled as a result of the scandal; and a tweet from Brzezinski about the challenges of motherhood.
King then sits down with actress Rachel Griffiths, who discusses the following topics: the famously beloved series finale of her show "Six Feet Under"; her enjoyment of her "complicated" character Brenda Chenowith; her friendships with "Six Feet Under" and "Brothers and Sisters" castmates; her talent for accents, having watched many American TV shows while growing up in Australia; her Broadway debut in the play "Other Desert Cities," which received strong reviews; her character's attempts to unravel her family's complicated past by writing a memoir; her description of herself as a "dark and gloomy child," largely due to her parents' divorce and subsequently being ostracized from their church; and her own relatively "late" marriage.
King then profiles chocolatier Julia Baker, who started her career as a statistician and then attended the Cordon Bleu in Paris and soon began her own chocolate company, noting that she was able to meet her longtime idol Bono as a result of her success. She explains that her French caramel truffle is particularly popular and that she creates recipes from her own tastes and favorites.
Next, King talks to author Neil Pasricha over Skype, and he discusses his recent book "The Book of (Holiday) Awesome" and offers suggestions for small everyday pleasures to enjoy during the holiday season. Finally, King's best friend Oprah Winfrey calls into the show and congratulates King on her new CBS job, noting that she has always had a talent for news reporting. Commercials deleted.
