LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN {DWYANE WADE, AMY SEDARIS, MORNINGWOOD} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of late-night talk/variety programs hosted by David Letterman. This program features Miami Heat basketball star Dwyane Wade, actress Amy Sedaris and musical guest Morningwood. In his opening monologue, Letterman touches upon the following topics: declining crime rates in New York; the unpleasantly hot weather on the first day of summer; President Bush's trip to Austria; the debut of the NBC competition series "America's Got Talent"; the Miami Heat basketball team's recent victory at the NBA Finals; and a surprising scientific discovery regarding robots.

Letterman, donning a variety of different hats, then introduces several other brief segments, including a "reminder" from former Vice-President Al Gore about global warming, as discussed in his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" (2006); the "World Cup Highlight of the Night"; acknowledgement of Microsoft founder Bill Gates' upcoming retirement; Bush's latest gaffes; and the "Top 10" list, featuring questions one must ask before a romantic encounter with a robot. Midway through the list, however, Letterman grows exasperated with the amount of trash on the street outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, as shown to the studio by a camera feed, and ventures out onto Broadway to clean it up, surprising several passers-by.

The first guest, Wade, then joins Letterman to discuss his team's celebrations after their win over the Dallas Mavericks at the finals; their two consecutive losses at the beginning of the season; Mavericks owner Mark Cuban's complaints about the relative fairness of the climatic game; Wade's position as an underdog draft pick next to superstars LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, and how they "push" him to improve his skills; his friendship with Shaquille O'Neal; working with legendary coach Pat Riley; the Heat's appearance on a Wheaties cereal box; and his plans for the off-season and upcoming training for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino.

Next, Sedaris takes the stage and chats about her recent trip to the beach; her consideration of an airplane banner ad to promote her new film "Strangers With Candy" (2005); her unusual trip to the U.S. Open; the advantages of "prey animals" as pets; her love of disguises and talent for making faces; and why "Strangers" is geared towards "misfits and outcasts." A clip from the film is then show.

Finally, Morningwood performs "Jetsetter" from their self-titled debut album. Includes commercials and promos.
