Summary
One in this series of live late-night talk shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This episode's guests include comedian Don Rickles, actress Emily Deschanel and musical guest Beck. In his opening monologue, Kimmel touches on the following topics, among others: the arrival of Earth Day; a "solar halo" in Florida that caused one frightened resident to call 911 in a panic; Apple's recent promises about renewable energy and recycled products; why Barbara Walters' plans to step down from "The View" do not quite constitute retirement; the increasingly annoying popularity of the song "Let It Go" from the Disney movie "Frozen" (2013); President Obama's current approval ratings; and an Earth Day-themed videotaped "experiment" in which a Styrofoam cup is tossed on the ground beside a garbage can on Hollywood Boulevard. Next, actor David Alan Grier introduces a humorous segment about his new book, "How to Tell Black People Apart," inspired by a reporter's embarrassing gaffe when he confused Samuel L. Jackson with Laurence Fishburne.
The first guest, Rickles, takes the stage and discusses a recent leg infection that required eight different surgeries; Kimmel's recent marriage to Molly McNearney and forthcoming new child; Rickles' daughter Mindy and her stand-up career; the upcoming Spike TV special "One Night Only: An All-Star Comedy Tribute to Don Rickles," featuring Rickles' "Casino" (1995) co-star Robert De Niro, who "doesn't like kidding around"; appearances by various big-name stars and comedians, including Rickles' longtime friend Bob Newhart; and whether he ever tires of being celebrated in special tributes.
Next, Deschanel takes the stage and discusses an unpleasant backstage visitor, who has lived in Kimmel's theatre ever since a visit from a young bug collector; the birth of her son Henry, who often accompanies her to the set of her crime/mystery series "Bones"; shooting on the same lot as her sister Zooey, who stars in "New Girl"; her family's vegan lifestyle; and the longevity of "Bones."
Finally, Beck performs "Blue Moon" from his album "Morning Phase." Includes commercial and promos.
