UNITED STATES OF TARA: POSSIBILITY (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy-drama series about a Kansas wife and mother dealing with dissociative identity disorder, also called "multiple-personality disorder." In this episode, Tara sits down with Dr. Ocean and Max to talk about her new alter, "Gimme," annoyed that they have been discussing the matter without her. Max reveals that he has taken steps to track down the man who apparently caused Tara's mental break back in college, explaining that he is one of the wealthy Johannesen family, but she angrily tells him that he cannot play the "cowboy" and attempt to repair her life. Kate heads back to work, though she dodges Gene's invitation to an improv show by claiming to be sick, and he allows her to head home to "recover." Tara is pleased to spot Marshall spending time with Jason, and she and Kate impulsively decide to hit the road for a mini road trip. Charmaine arrives and spots Marshall trying to improve his physique, and she explains that she is working on appreciating her own "attributes."
Neil points out that Tara's "cowboy" accusation was entirely accurate, given Max's habit of trying to catch "bad guys," and Tara and Kate end up crashing a pharmaceutical conference at a spa and flirting with two friends, Mike and Tevin. Gene interrupts Jason and Marshall's afternoon together when he stops by with supplies for the "sick" Kate, and Max hits a dead end when he learns that Tripp Johannesen now works in Chicago. Tara is annoyed to find Kate kissing Mike in a hot tub, and when Kate counters that Tara often behaves recklessly when one of her other personalities takes over, "T." emerges and joins them in the Jacuzzi. Marshall and Jason share a kiss, and Max realizes that his son has "got it bad" when he spots Jason leaving the house. Kate finds T. at a tattoo parlor and tries to stop her from getting inked, pointing out that she is changing Tara's body without her permission, and the pain of the needle allows Tara to come back. Later, however, she and Kate decide to get matching tattoos to commemorate their getaway. Later, Max leaves a voicemail for Tara, promising to stop digging into her past if she truly wishes him to drop it.
