EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS: EVERYBODY HATES REJECTION {SEASON TWO PREMIERE} (TV)

Summary

The second season premiere in this comedy series that takes place in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn in 1982, the year Chris Rock turned 13. In this episode, Chris is disappointed when his longtime crush, Keisha, moves out of town, but he soon sets his sights on another girl, Yvette, pleased to learn that she will "go out with anyone." At the same time, crime rates begin to skyrocket in Bed-Stuy, largely because of the popularity of crack cocaine, and the Rocks' new neighbor Louise decides that they need a neighborhood watch. Rochelle dismisses the idea until Julius' truck is stolen, at which point she begins preparing for the group's first meeting. Chris experiments with cologne and is elated when Yvette agrees to accompany him to the movies, while elsewhere Drew takes a job as crossing guard and encounters a number of admiring young ladies. At the neighborhood watch meeting, Louise bickers with the other women and attempts to appoint herself "captain," but Rochelle rallies her friends and wins the vote instead.

Chris' family members offer him varying advice about his first date, but Yvette stands him up and he returns to school in a state of dejection. Louise annoys Rochelle with endless minor complaints about "safety," and Doc encourages Chris to confront Yvette about her behavior. Yvette casually states that she forgot about their date and seems reluctant to reschedule, until Chris reveals that he has tickets to an upcoming Houdini show. Doc points out that Yvette is merely an "opportunist" and does not genuinely like him, and when Chris tests her by claiming that the tickets are invalid, she makes her disinterest plain. Rochelle is frustrated to learn that Julius' truck was actually towed, not stolen, and she finally concedes her role as watch captain to Louise, exasperated with her obsessive worrying. Drew ends up quitting as crossing guard, feeling overwhelmed by the attention, and Chris tells Yvette that she should simply have been honest about her feelings. He resolves to be more careful about girls, but then notices another young lady – Louise's granddaughter. Commercials deleted.
