Highlights include: a discussion of the sitcom “Good Times”; remembrances of the original Jackson Five; the advent of the afro hairstyle; the musical (and later film adaptation) of “The Wiz”; “Brothers with Badges,” a brief retrospective of fictional depictions of African-American police officers; some of the most notable songs by African-Americans from the 1970’s; remembrances of the sitcom “Sanford and Son”; the television music program “Soul Train” and its host, Don Cornelius; the creation of the funk music genre and the bands Parliament and Earth, Wind, and Fire; some of the most notable catchphrases of the 1970’s; the “cosmic girls” of the 1970’s; recollections of the sitcom “The Jeffersons”; remembrances of the music of Barry White; the advent of the “Blaxploitation” film genre and its more notable examples, including the “Shaft” film series; a segment on 1970’s fashions and some of the more attractive men of the 1970’s; the sitcom “What’s Happening”; the rise to prominence of musician Stevie Wonder; the television show “The White Shadow”; the popularity of the Harlem Globetrotters; and the television miniseries “Roots.” Commercials deleted.
