MY WIFE AND KIDS: CHILDCARE CLASS (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series starring Damon Wayans as an old-fashioned husband and father who struggles to adapt to the modern ways of his wife and three kids.
Michael quiets his grandson when he cries incessantly, much to the amazement of the rest of the family. Michael and Janet are scheduled to attend a childcare class for grandparents, although Michael is dismissive of new psychological ideas in childrearing, preferring spanking as a means of disciplining children. They attend the class alongside Calvin, Jasmine, and a number of elderly people. Michael proves to be argumentative with the instructor and her more sensitive childrearing techniques. During the class Michael and Calvin become quite competitive and make something of a ruckus. The instructor becomes so annoyed that she fails Michael out of the class. Michael does not care, believing that it makes no difference, but soon finds that Junior and Vanessa are unwilling to place the baby in his care any longer, and that everyone is dismissive of his views on childrearing as old-fashioned.
In order to prove himself, Michael approaches the instructor again and tries to endear himself to her, hoping that she will award him a childcare graduation certificate. She refuses, and his attempts to bribe her are similarly unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the family’s attempts to calm the baby using newer techniques prove to be ineffective. They beg Michael to intervene despite their reluctance to let him handle the baby earlier. He does not do so until they apologize to him. Everyone leaves while Michael enacts his “foolproof” method of calming babies, which turns out to be allowing the baby to pass gas. Later Michael is forced to admit that some of the new childrearing techniques he denigrated are not bad. Commercials deleted.
