ALL THAT GLITTERS {EPISODE FOUR} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series that imagines a world where women are the heads of households and businesses and men are the homemakers and secretaries.

Michael reports on how Linda was kidnapped by two individuals in ski masks. He produces a note left by the kidnappers, identifying themselves as “The Rhode Island Reds,” asking for one million dollars in cash in exchange for Linda’s safe return. While everyone is still assembled, L.W. finally reveals what she was about to tell everyone in the meeting: Linda was once a man named Leonard “Lenny” Murkland and underwent gender reassignment surgery a year ago in order to become a woman. Several of them note slyly that their problems would be solved if the kidnappers decided to kill Linda, and they seem to consider the possibility. Linda ends up being held by a pair of country yokels, a mother and her adult son, in an isolated, run-down shack. She is quite distressed at the situation and begs to be let out, but they do not comply. The woman laments about her son, whom she implies is developmentally disabled, and about the difficulty in finding work as a professional criminal due to advances in security technologies.

Bert has a repairwoman over to fix his washing machine, and he finds that replacing its malfunctioning pump will be quite expensive. He calls Christina about the situation but she is still dealing with the kidnapping incident and abruptly hangs up on him. He speaks with the repairwoman, who appears to be coming on to him. Her advances make Bert quite nervous and flustered, and he declines her offer. She leaves, but not before advising Bert to look into a book, “The Manly Man,” which she believes will be beneficial for Bert in his relationship with Christina. L.W. announces that for the time being, the “Wilmington Woman” advertising campaign will continue. However, this plan operates under the assumption that Linda will be killed, thus exonerating them from the dilemma of her revelation as a transgender person and granting the corporation free publicity. Nancy is horrified at the moral implications of this plan, although L.W. tries to convince her that her death is for the greater good. Commercials deleted.
