ALL IN THE FAMILY: BEVERLY RIDES AGAIN (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a working-class household presided over by the opinionated Archie Bunker.

In this episode, Archie's pals decide to prank him, yet again, with a "live" mongoose in a box, knowing that he will be too curious to resist inspecting it. He falls for the trick, much to their amusement; elsewhere, Edith is surprised by a visit from Beverly, the female impersonator whose life Archie saved one year ago. Archie, of course, is highly uncomfortable with her presence, particularly when she offers to take them out to dinner to celebrate "their anniversary." When Beverly suggests that he bring another friend, Archie realizes that he finally has an opportunity to get Pinky back. He invites Pinky to join them, promising that he will introduce him to "a real lady." However, when left alone, Pinky reveals that he recognizes Beverly from her show and is aware of her true identity. He decides to play along, explaining that he does not want to disappoint his good friend and ruin the joke.

At dinner, Pinky seemingly takes a great liking to Beverly, telling Archie that he has "never felt like this before" and is more than willing to ditch his current girlfriend, Doris. A fretful Edith urges Archie to end the gag, but Pinky beats him to it and reveals that he knew all along. Beverly is annoyed at Archie using her to trick his friend. A very angry Doris suddenly arrives, having been alerted by Archie to Pinky's "cheating." When Beverly reveals herself to be a man, Archie tells Doris that she has been dating a "sicko," which further frustrates Pinky. Elated at having finally gotten one over on his friend, Archie jubilantly declares it to be "the best night of his life" and plants a kiss on Beverly, much to his own shock. Commercials deleted.
