WHAT'S HAPPENING!!: MY THREE TONS (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about African-American teenagers living in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

Rerun finds out about a local audition for a dance group, The Rockets, and wants to try out despite ridicule from his friends. Mabel encourages him and he decides to audition, accompanied by Raj and Dwayne. They notice that the other tryouts all have agents, and Raj decides to pose as Rerun’s. His audition seemingly goes well, but Dwayne discovers that they intend to hire Freddy as a “comedy act” specifically to humiliate him over his weight. Dwayne, upset by this, goes back to Raj and Rerun and tells him that he has been hired, although he cannot bring himself to tell him the real reason why.

The Rockets hire a joke writer to devise a comedy act involving Rerun, although one member of the group is not amused by his mean-spirited quips. Dwayne asks Mabel for advice: he wants to tell Rerun the truth but knows that Rerun is excited about getting the job and doesn’t wish to spoil that. She talks about how she deals with fat jokes herself. Raj and Rerun return and at Mabel’s urging Dwayne tells Rerun the truth. Rerun is upset at the news, but Mabel devises a plan to teach the Rockets a “lesson.” At the Rockets’ next show, Raj goes onstage posing as Freddy in order to ruin their prepared fat jokes and generally disrupt their act. Rerun and company have a good laugh about their prank, although he appears to decide to go on a diet. Commercials deleted.
