LOOKING: LOOKING FOR THE PROMISED LAND {SEASON TWO PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this drama series about the lives of a group of gay friends living in San Francisco.
Patrick, Dom, and Agustin go out to the woods to stay at Lynn’s cabin for the weekend. Patrick attempts to get Agustin to promise to refrain from consuming alcohol that weekend, much to Agustin’s bemusement at his apparent attempt at an “intervention.” Agustin turns things around by claiming that Patrick is “wallowing” in self-pity due to his continuing issues with Richie, although Patrick does not approve of Agustin’s drinking and his increasingly disruptive sexual activities. The three of them hike into the woods to look at the old and massive trees within, and later Dom snoops around in Lynn’s cabinets and finds some of his photo albums. Dom notes that he is genuinely interested in getting to know Lynn but is uncertain of how to go about doing so. He also wants Lynn to discuss his previous relationships but knows that this is an awkward proposition. Patrick tells him that he is happy despite how he left things with Richie.
The next day the trio rafts down the river and pass a riverside beach with a large number of men lounging about. This piques Dom and Agustin’s interest and they want to stop off, but Patrick urges them to keep going. They return to the cabin later to find Doris waiting for them, although Patrick is unhappy when he finds out that she got into Lynn’s liquor cabinet and that Agustin left his door open. She convinces them to go out that night and they go back into the woods, finding some of the men from the beach earlier. Agustin brings ecstasy to the party and passes it out to Dom, Doris, and Patrick. They reach the party, dubbed “The Promised Land,” and join in the dancing and festivities. During the party, Agustin admits to Patrick that he truly appreciates everything he’s done for him, including letting him move back in with him. Patrick nearly tells him the truth about his recent relationships, but suddenly the ecstasy kicks in and everyone dances around in a drug-fueled haze.
Agustin sneaks off to go skinny-dipping with another partygoer. Dom takes yet another partygoer back to Lynn’s cabin for a sexual encounter. During this, the other man looks over at a photograph of Lynn and inquires about him; Dom claims that Lynn does not mind him sleeping with someone else. Agustin talks about his life and his lack of purpose with his new friend, Eddie, who says he works for a homeless shelter designed to help gay and transgender teenagers. The two continue their chat, developing something of a connection. Patrick calls Kevin and he drives out to the woods to meet him. He takes Kevin to an isolated spot and initiates a sexual encounter with him. In the morning, Patrick meets back up with Dom and Agustin; Agustin talks about his meeting with Eddie and says that he is HIV-positive, and Dom talks about his own experiences. Patrick decides to reveal his relationship with Kevin to Dom and Agustin, leaving them shocked. He notes that he thought that getting away for the weekend would help him distance himself from Kevin, but finds that he could not help himself. The three of them are unsure of how to proceed and decide to put off the matter for the time being.
