HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER: LET'S GET TO SCOOPING (TV)

Summary

One in this series of legal dramas about a hard-nosed Philadelphia law professor who recruits her students to work in her firm – leading to their entanglement in a variety of ethically questionable schemes.

In this episode, in the future, the students begin to panic about their involvement with the murder cover-up, alarmed when Asher arrives at the door. Seven weeks earlier, Connor pays Oliver an impromptu visit, reminding him that they are not a "couple. " In court, Judge Killinger denies Annalise's attempts to get Rebecca's recorded confession thrown out and sets bail at $1 million. Bonnie and Annalise sit down with the dazed Rebecca, who declares that Griffin is pinning the murder on her; Annalise is furious to learn that it was Wes who unintentionally provoked her confession. Bonnie and Frank speculate about the "shooting star" in the Keating group, landing upon "prom queen" Michaela. Annalise soon takes her students to see her latest client, high-powered stockbroker Marren Trudeau, who is accused of insider trading.

As Bonnie tries to reason with D.A. Parks, Marren denies buying the stocks in advance, though a graphic video shows that she is intimately familiar with the CEO of the company in question. When she declares that she was hacked, Annalise orders her students to find the real culprit, and Asher is excited at the prospect of being "spies." All of Marren's employees defend her, though Annalise is dismissive of Marren's protests that they are her "family." Marren realizes that her attorney trusts no one, including her clients and her own husband. Elsewhere, Bonnie observes as Nate performs an illegal search of Sam's car. In the future, Connor continues fretting that they have doomed themselves by leaving evidence connecting them to Sam's murder. In the past, Michaela desperately tries to find time to study for her torts exam amidst her work on Marren's case. Kan arrives and tries to help Laurel and Wes figure out a plan for Rebecca's bail. Elsewhere, Connor visits Paxton, Marren's assistant, and after an exhaustive workplace tryst, Connor secretly records Paxton's phone conversation with an unknown person – in which he admits to buying the stocks and framing Marren for the illegal maneuver.

Connor and the others begin the grisly process of disposing of Sam's body. In the past, Oliver helps Connor to trace Paxton's call, leading them back to another of Marren's employees. Bonnie visits Sgt. Joseph and, revealing that she witnessed Nick's investigation into a second suspect – Sam – demands the tape of Rebecca's interrogation. Marren is outraged to learn of her longtime assistant's betrayal and confronts him with harsh words and threats, prompting Paxton to throw himself from a high window to his death. Annalise assures a shocked Marren that she will find Paxton's co-conspirators. As she tells her students about how to secure a witness' confession through complicated questioning, she eventually zeroes in on Talia Lewis and Jimmy Wordshaw, who are then arrested for hatching the stocks plot and swindling Paxton into joining them. Relieved, Michaela finally prepares to tackle her studies with the fabled "Tillman outline," but Bonnie then produces Rebecca's confession tape, which shows clear signs of police coercion.

Judge Killinger significantly reduces her bail. In the future, a near-hysterical Connor visits Oliver at dawn, lamenting that he "screwed up." In the past, however, Oliver learns about Connor's dalliance with Paxton and angrily rejects him. Wes finally convinces Rebecca to allow him to see the contents of her mobile phone; Wes relates the damning information to Annalise, who observes that Rebecca's trust in him will prove useful as the case continues. Back at home, a somber Annalise confronts Sam with the phone – which contains an explicit photograph of him, strongly suggesting an affair between himself and the dead girl.
