MODERN FAMILY: AMERICAN SKYPER {SEASON SIX FINALE} (TV)
Summary
The sixth season finale in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, Phil, stranded on a business trip, attends Alex's high school graduation as "a robot": via Skype on an iPad attached to a Segway. Jay is annoyed by the continued presence of Gloria's cousin Armando, and Haley is alarmed when Andy's girlfriend Beth makes it clear that she will go to any lengths necessary to prevent Haley "stealing" Andy. Cam and Mitch prepare to buy the apartment above theirs with Phil's help, though Mitch seems uncomfortable with the process, and Claire searches for the perfect graduation gift for Alex, feeling that the "lame" song written by Phil will not suffice. Haley's concern increases when an oblivious Andy assures her that Beth is "obsessed" with her, and Mitch asks "robot" Phil to cancel the apartment purchase, privately admitting that he was laid off from his job and now spends his days in the park playing checkers with the elderly Spencer. Jay finds a highly suspicious package and suspects Armando of criminal activity, to which Gloria takes offense, and when Mitch presents Alex with a lovingly hand-crafted scrapbook as a present, Claire begins to wonder how he found the time to create it.
Cam begins to suspect Mitch of cheating when he notices a number of text messages from the unknown Spencer, and Andy asks Phil's advice on proposing to Beth, admitting that he has been struggling with feelings for someone else. Claire, still searching for a gift, is frustrated when Jay surprises Alex with a trip to Europe, and Cam demands answers from Phil about Mitch's strange behavior, sure that he knows about the "affair." Beth's not-so-subtle threats against Haley begin to escalate, and Claire is forced to ask Phil to teach her the silly song for Alex, though their "performance" for her is hindered by sound problems with the iPad. Gloria gives a heartfelt speech about Alex's kindness, and Jay decides to apologize to Armando for his unfounded suspicions, though Gloria, aware that her cousin is in fact stealing from them, interprets some very different words. Mitch finally admits that he is out of a job when Cam confronts him about his secret "lover," and Cam assures him that he will find something new and that they can still make the apartment plan work. Alex tells her mother that she has already given her more than enough over the years and invites her along on the Europe trip, and when Haley tells her father about Beth's vendetta against her, Phil points out that she has feelings for Andy after all. He then realizes that Haley was Andy's "someone else" and tries desperately to prevent the misguided proposal – but the iPad's sound malfunctions again, and matters grow worse when he is "kidnapped" by a quickly-departing Armando. Includes commercials and promos.
