LIVING SINGLE: IN THE BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a group of black friends living in a Brooklyn brownstone. In this episode, Regine has a gentleman caller over for the night, and at work, Khadijah is annoyed by Elmo Sable, a skeevy businessman who wishes to put a tasteless liquor ad in Flavor. She refuses him, but then learns that she must pay an overdue bill of $2,000 to the printer or jeopardize the magazine's future. Khadijah scrambles to find the money, and Synclaire soon spills her secret to their nosy friends. Regine suggests that Max should simply lend her the funds, though Max protests that Khadijah becomes far too anxious when she borrows money. Kyle and Overton stop by and offer their advice on the problem, though Overton also points out that Kyle still owes him a small sum from an evening out. Regine suggests a "lingerie party" to raise money, though Khadijah arrives home in the middle of the festivities and kicks everyone out. Frustrated, Max finally convinces her to take a "business loan" from her.
Khadijah pays off the printer but remains "uptight" about the loan, and Overton continues annoying Kyle about his small debt. Max and Khadijah begin to squabble about the money, and Synclaire sadly observes that finances can destroy friendships, prompting the men to quickly make up. Khadijah imposes some strict financial regulations at work and regretfully accepts Sable's unpleasant deal, though Synclaire accuses her of "selling out" and she quickly changes her mind. Later, she confronts her friends about their busybody ways, though Regine argues that borrowing and lending is simply "the American way." Khadijah compromises with Max by making her a 2% owner of Flavor, and the women decide to celebrate with milkshakes – though this proves difficult, as Khadijah has sold the blender. Commercials deleted.
